Lincoln County Record: Mountain biking continuing to gain traction in Lincoln County

June 10, 2019 by Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT)

Mountain biking is becoming quite the individual or family recreational sport in Lincoln County. That is due primarily to the new trails that have been and are still being constructed.

Local biking enthusiast Christine Harrington told the Record, ā€œThe mountain bike network in Caliente now consists of 22 miles of custom-built single track.ā€

She said, ā€œKershaw-Ryan State Park recently completed construction of an exciting new flow trail which is friendly to both the beginning and more advanced riders.ā€

June 10, 2019 by Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT)

Neither wind, rain nor cloudy skies put a damper on the start of Caliente’s Memorial Day Weekend, with activities going May 24-29.

The weekend kicked off with a Friday barbecue at Nevada Bank & Trust for customer appreciation day. Later that evening, the Knotty Pine held a dance. Bartenders were kept busy and the dance floor was full.

Lincoln County Photo Festival offers two days of hands-on workshops

May 10, 2019 by Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT)

Lincoln County, Nevada will once again host photographers for two days of hands-on learning and adventure during the second annual Lincoln County Photo Festival.

Created by the Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT), the Photo Festival invites photography enthusiasts to in-the-field photography workshops, where they will hone skills in a beautiful high-desert setting.

The year’s event is slated for Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22.

ā€œWe had a great time last year at the inaugural event, and we are very excited to once again welcome photographers to Lincoln County,ā€ said LCAT president Marcia Hurd. ā€œWe have a fantastic schedule of workshops centered in amazing locations.ā€

Friday begins with breakfast and orientation at the historic train Depot in Caliente, followed by two full days of workshops. The group will reconvene Saturday evening at the historic Thompson’s Opera House in Pioche for dinner and sharing of participants’ favorite shots.

Ten workshops will be provided by six professional photographers. Topics will include Impressionistic, Drone, Action, Sunset, Night Sky, Wildlife, Travel and Environmental Portraits. Nevada-based photographers Alyce Bender and Mikel Conrad join returning instructors Michael Okimoto, Shawn Severn, and Corrine Severn, and ā€œThe Drone Girl,ā€ Sally French, will fly in from San Francisco to teach the Drone Photography course.

Locations include Cathedral Gorge and Spring Valley State Parks, the new Barnes Canyon Mountain Biking trails, Caliente Skills Park, and historic sites throughout Pioche, including some sites typically unavailable to the public.

Those interested in attending the event can learn more and register online at https://lincolncountynevada.com/playing/spring-events/photo-festival/, or contact Ben Rowley by calling (775) 962-2461 or emailing info@lincolncountynevada.com.

The photo festival is supported by the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT).

Lincoln County Record: Beautiful weather results in strong turnout for annual Carp Rodeo

May 10, 2019 by Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT)

The Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge held its annual Carp Rodeo April 27 at Upper Pahranagat Lake.

Over 130 participants, including families and kids, came for the one-day event to catch as many carp as they could.

Carp are an oily, invasive species and need to be periodically reduced in the lake as much as possible. In all, 104 carp were caught at the rodeo.

The event this year was sponsored in part by the family and friends of the late Tim Kuchar, an avid fisherman who passed away last year. One of his final wishes was to make several donations that encouraged people to fish on public lands. Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge was proud to hold the 2019 Carp Rodeo in his memory.

Lincoln County Record: Local hospital holds health fair

May 10, 2019 by Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT)

Every year the Grover C. Dils Medical Center (GCDMC) Health Fair seems to expand, and this year was no exception.

The tables at the front of the fair were filled with information about services available for people in Lincoln County. There was a specific area for blood draws and screening. Also available were CBD products and essential oils. Meadow Valley Clinic provide check-ups for those who lived here in the ’50s and ’60s and who might be considered ā€œdownwindersā€ – individuals who were exposed to fallout from nuclear devices that were detonated at the Nevada Test Site.

“Jeffrey Anderson loves to tell stories.

“In fact, he’s spent decades doing just that through different mediums. Now, he’s set to share his work from nearly 20 years of taking photos in Lincoln County.”

“‘ā€œI want to support Pioche and Caliente in any way I can,’ Anderson said. ‘These places have been tremendously supportive and pulled me out of the mountains more than once.'”

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øHappy Presidents’ Day from Lincoln Count šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øHappy Presidents’ Day from Lincoln County, Nevada! Here in Lincoln County, history isn’t just something you read about—it’s something you can see, touch, and walk through. Named after President Abraham Lincoln, our county holds the stories of the Old West, of pioneers and dreamers who carved out a life in this rugged land. Step inside the Lincoln County Museum, and you’ll find relics of a time long past—weathered saddles, tools worn smooth by hard-working hands, and echoes of a county that once bustled with miners, ranchers, and lawmen—and still does. Every artifact speaks of resilience, grit, and the unshakable spirit that built the West. The museum is open to the public Monday-Saturday. We’ve been told by reputable sources it’s one of the ā€œbest historical museumsā€ in the state of Nevada. ā¤ļø So today, as we tip our hats to the leaders of our nation, we also honor the history that made this place home.
